To reveal it is a study of the University of Innsbruck, Austria, published in the journal Appetite.

Bitter foods and personality: the austrian study
Researchers have examined about 1000 people, men and women 35 years of age, on average, in two separate experiments.

In the first, a group of 500 people has been shown to have a long list of foods containing equal measures of sweet, salty, acid and bitter. Among these, chocolate cake, vinegar and radishes. He was then asked to express their liking for each food on a scale of 6 points and complete four questionnaires on personality. To reveal it is a study of the University of Innsbruck, Austria, published in the journal Appetite.

The questionnaires
The first questionnaire measured their levels of aggressiveness by asking to evaluate statements such as “If provoked, I could hit someone”.

In the second, participants were asked to state how much they agree or disagree with statements such as “I Tend to manipulate others to achieve my goal” or “I Tend to want the attention of others”; the objective was to identify the presence of personality traits such as machiavellianism, psychopathy and narcissism.

Subsequently, participants answered questions designed to evaluate personality traits related to extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and emotional stability.

The last questionnaire has tested the propensity to “sadism daily“, with statements like “making fun of someone is especially fun if this person is aware of it”.

The second experiment, conducted on 450 people, has confirmed the results of the first.

The conclusions of the study
According to the researchers, the study confirms the hypothesis that the preference for the taste, bitter is positively associated with traits of personality malicious, with a strong relationship with the sadism newspaper and psychopathy. The second experiment, conducted on 450 people, has confirmed the results of the first.

In the course of this research showed that this preference was strongly associated with signs of machiavellianism, psychopathy, narcissism, selfishness, sadism, and a greater inclination to be computers, and devoid of empathy. Kindness, with the tendency of understanding and cooperation were negatively related to the preference for bitter tastes.

This is obviously a single study, which provides a series of insights on the relationship between eating behaviour and personality, and that requires, of course, further in-depth studies.
